Longtime Stonington restaurant sees transformation

Fisherman’s Friend — a table-service restaurant in Stonington that spanned two locations in 40 years — is being repurposed as a counter-service eatery called Stonecutters Kitchen.

Island Advantages reported the transformed restaurant will aim more at locals than summer folks.

“We wanted to do something year-round, with more options, in Stonington,” owner Tony Bray told the paper. “The locals are what keep us going all year ’round.”

Stonecutters Kitchen will combine with Harbor View Store into one business, and will add 1,000 square feet to the store, with more ready-made food to go, and a larger take-out menu.

The repurposed operation — named after the original stonecutters that gave Stonington its name — is expected to open in April.
