Hammond Lumber passes leadership torch to third generation

Courtesy / Hammond Lumber Co. Mike Hammond is the new president and CEO of Hammond Lumber Co., taking the reins from his father, Don Hammond, who will remain as vice president.

Belgrade-based Hammond Lumber Co. announced today a transition in leadership with the appointment of Mike Hammond as president and CEO.

He served as the company’s vice president of the family-owned business for 20 years.

He succeeds his father, Don Hammond, who has been president since 1997 and will become become vice president.

Hammond Lumber, founded in 1953 by Clifton "Skip" and Verna Hammond, produces eastern white pine lumber and is one of the largest independent retailers of building materials in the Northeast. 

Nationally, it ranked 35th in sales on the 2016 ProSales 100 List, reporting $151 million in sales. The company has 460 employees with 13 retail locations across Maine.

I'm eager to continue investing in Hammond Lumber Co.'s long-term growth and vitality. While my title has changed, this is part of the natural management succession plan we've had in place for many years.”

Hammond said his father “is in great health and has no immediate plans to retire.”
