Wilton furniture-maker expands orders, employees

Under new ownership, Maine Made Furniture in Wilton has secured new contracts and is planning to expand its workforce.

The Morning Sentinel reported that new owner Tim Lovett, who bought the company last September and relocated it to Wilton’s former Bass Shoe Factory industrial park, has received sponsorship from the town of Wilton for his application for a workforce development grant.

Lovett told the newspaper the grant could help him boost Maine Made’s employees from 12 to 18 by the end of the year. New contracts include a deal with Sunday River to build 1,000 pieces of furniture for the resort’s Grand Summit Hotel.

Lovett told the paper he’s also developing a website to allow customers to design custom pieces using predetermined options such as wood species and finishes.

“This is the part I get excited about because there’s so much possibility, and there’s really no build-your-own furniture sites,” Barrett Stowell, a consultant and designer who has worked with Maine Made for several years, told the newspaper.
