Oxford Casino yields bonanza for town, county

A “cascade of revenue” distribution system from the Oxford Casino yielded $1.6 million for the town of Oxford and just over $800,000 for Oxford County in 2016.

The Advertiser Democrat reported the casino is viewed locally as the largest economic catalyst in the region — creating jobs, expanding existing businesses and opening new ones — since its opening in 2012.

The development of the casino included a provision that requires 46% of net slot machine income and 16% of net table game income to go the state through the Maine Gambling Control Board. The board then divvies the money up to various state, municipal and tribal entities, including the town and county.

Town Manager Becky Lippincott told the paper most of the casino money offsets municipal projects such as improvements to the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
