Main Street Bucksport hires executive director

Main Street Bucksport, which launched in 2014 to revitalize the downtown, has named its first executive director.

Brook Ewing Minner, a founder of the organization, owns Ocean’s Edge Realty in Bucksport along with her husband, Mark Eastman. They recently moved to the village with their daughter. Minner is also a part-time director of the Brooksville Free Public Library.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brook in a staff leadership role,” Roxanne Jobe, vice president of the board, said in a news release. “We were fortunate to have a highly qualified pool of candidates but Brook’s non-profit experience and commitment to downtown Bucksport made her selection unanimous.”

The nonprofit was formed after the anticipated closure of the Verso paper mill and after losing some downtown businesses. The mill closed in late 2014. The mission of the organization is to “promote a vibrant downtown Bucksport by supporting existing businesses, attracting new businesses, and supporting cultural arts events.”

It has organized or helped promote several events, including the 6th annual Bridge the Gap Race, scheduled for April 9; the 3rd annual Bucksport Arts Festival on August 12; and the 2nd annual International Maritime Film Festival on Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. It has also partnered with the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce to host holiday events in downtown Bucksport.
