Boothbay region’s first medical marijuana business to open

Pharmers Markets Caregivers, a medical marijuana caregiver business, is expected to open in Boothbay within the next month.

The Boothbay Register reported the Boothbay Planning Board approved a change of use application by the operators, Jan Martin of Boothbay and Darrell Gudroe of Boothbay Harbor.

The location is a small shopping plaza, where the partners have planned uses for other spaces in the plaza, expected to include a garden supply section, accessory store, telemedicine room and rental marijuana growing space. The partners’ application called for upgrading security and lighting.

Martin is a state-licensed medical marijuana caregiver and Gudroe is a caregiver’s consultant, the paper reported. The partners plan to grow and sell recreational marijuana as the next phase of their business.

Selectman Chuck Cunningham said he supported the enterprise, the paper reported.

“I’ve talked to [Gudroe] about his plan and it’s rock solid,” Cunningham said.
