Ellsworth hot spot Jordan’s closes

A popular Ellsworth eatery, Jordan’s Snack Bar, has closed for an indeterminate amount of time due to the death of a family member.

The Ellsworth American reported the eatery has been closed since April 15. In an ad placed in the paper, the Jordan family wrote, “Always know how much we love and care about this community and the kind people who live here,” and thanked the community “for 35 great years.”

Jordan’s has been a seasonal hot spot for locals and tourists alike, who line up at the takeout window for traditional Downeast fare like lobster rolls as well as to enjoy the arcade, playground and “Wednesday Night Cruise-Ins” offering local music, dancing and a car show.

The Ellsworth American reported that Carol and Jimmy Jordan started Jordan’s Snack Bar after purchasing an established take-out restaurant in 1981, and it remained a family affair, with sons Shawn and Michael working in the kitchen and Carol’s mother “Grammy” washing dishes.
