Developers vie for right to buy city-owned land in Bayside

Portland city officials are evaluating bids from 11 developers seeking to purchase and develop up to six parcels of city-owned land in the Bayside neighborhood.

The Portland Press Herald reported that names of the developers, bid offers and details of the development proposals are being kept confidential. The parcels are located at 55 Portland St., 44 Hanover St., 56 Parris St., 82 Hanover St., 65 Hanover St. and 178 Kennebec St. in Portland and include 4.1 acres of the city’s former Public Works properties, the newspaper reported

Greg Mitchell, the city’s economic development director, told the newspaper there was “a very high level of interest from local developers” and that most of the proposals include a mix of housing, retail and commercial uses.

Mitchell said the proposals comply with existing zoning, which in some cases allows for 105-foot tall buildings, and generally call for a mix of housing, retail and commercial uses.

CBRE|The Boulos Co. is broker for the city-owned properties.
