Medical marijuana advocates oppose inspection proposal

Medical marijuana caregivers spoke against a proposed Department of Health and Human Services rule that would give state enforcement agents the right to do unannounced inspections if they receive a complaint of a possible violation.

WGME reported that hundreds turned out for a DHHS hearing on the matter. The proposal also includes a limit on the amount marijuana caregivers can sell to patients.

The state monitors regulated medical marijuana dispensaries, but there is currently no active oversight of home growers or caregivers of medical marijuana. Maine has eight licensed and regulated dispensaries.
