The CAT ferry trims schedule

A mechanical issue is forcing the owners of the CAT ferry to cut back its summer schedule.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Bay Ferries Ltd. blamed engine problems for curtailing the frequency of the vessel, which runs between Portland and Nova Scotia.

The issue with the engine cannot be repaired until the off season. In the meantime, the malfunction means the vessel will travel at 28 to 30 knots per hour, rather than the customary 33 to 35 knots, the Press Herald reported.

It will run five days a week instead of six through Labor Day. Bay Ferries, which is based in New Brunswick, will also modify the fall schedule.

“We regret any inconvenience this has caused to our customers and many partners and we thank them for their patience,” Bay Ferries Chairman and CEO Mark MacDonald said in a statement.
