Damariscotta residents seek moratorium on commercial development

Damariscotta residents have submitted a petition to the town requesting a six-month moratorium on the development of retail buildings larger than 2,500 square feet.

The Lincoln County News reported the petition also requests a temporary ban on new construction, expansion or use that requires approval under the town’s zoning and land use ordinances and regulations. The petition cited an unanticipated “threat of increased development pressure from large scale retail development.”

The petition came shortly before the Damariscotta Planning Board was scheduled to hear an application on construction of 11 acres on Main Street for a 22,000-square-foot-building for two retail stores, a 5,525-square-foot building with three retail spaces and a 2,700-square-foot bank with a drive-through, by Portland developer Daniel Catlin, CEO of Commercial Properties Inc. http://www.mainebiz.biz/article/20170731/NEWS0101/170739997/three-commercial-buildings-proposed-for-damariscotta
