Refinery module job a factor in Cianbro’s hiring plans

Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp., the state’s largest construction company, plans to add 250 employees, largely in Maine and New England, by the end of the year, according to a report in the Bangor Daily News.

Some of those new employees will be at the company’s South Brewer module manufacturing facility, where the BDN reported Cianbro will be building modules for a refinery.

The newspaper reported, however, that Cianbro declined to name the client or just how many employees would be needed. Previous module projects have employed 100 to 500 people.

Founded in 1949, Cianbro is the nation’s 30th largest construction company, operating in more than 40 states, five markets and employing more than 4,000 workers. Major projects in Maine include the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge replacement between Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H., and the $250 million, multi-phased Eastern Maine Medical Center modernization project.

In June, Cianbro and Northland Associates Inc. of Liverpool, N.Y., were awarded a $215 million contract to modernize and expand facilities at the U.S. Land Port of Entry in Alexandria Bay, N.Y.
