With increased production, Texas Instruments is hiring in South Portland

Texas Instruments, the Dallas-based integrated circuit manufacturer, is hiring up to 20 contract workers for its South Portland microchip fabrication plant.

The Portland Press Herald reported that new products and technologies are prompting the hiring for entry-level jobs

“We have a lot of automation in there. Their job will be to keep the equipment operating efficiently,” Paul Cote, program manager at Volt Workforce Solutions, of the companies organizing a job fair for Texas Instruments, told the Press Herald.

In early 2016, Texas Instruments “reshored” some operations, benefiting South Portland, after the company said it would close a manufacturing plant in Scotland, the Press Herald reported at that time. The movement of production from Scotland to South Portland location and locations in Japan and Germany was due to the higher cost of production in Scotland. The transition was expected to take up to three years.
