Emera Maine seeks approval for revenue boost, rate hike

Emera Maine is seeking approval approval from the Maine Public Utilities Commission for a rate hike that would boost revenues by 12% and increase electricity prices next year, averaging about $3.60 a month, for its 154,000 customers in northern and eastern Maine.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Emera is expected to submit the complete filing to the PUC by Oct. 2, and an initial conference is scheduled for Oct. 11.

If approved by the PUC, the company’s request would result in a $10.1 million revenue increase and a 4% to 5% hike in electric rates for residential customers, a spokeswoman told the BDN. The company’s two residential districts include Bangor Hydroelectric, which is has customers in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock and Washington counties and Maine Public District, which has customers in parts of Aroostook county.
