L-A chamber takes over Top Gun LA and annual Maine B2B Trade Show

The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce agreed to take over the Top Gun LA program and the annual Maine B2B Trade Show from the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, which faces an uncertain future due to funding cuts by both cities.

The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that the chamber sees Top Gun LA, which came to the Twin Cities for the first time in early 2017 and is organized by the Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development, as a good strategic fit to advance its goals of workforce development and strengthening the region’s brand.

Top Gun LA’s application period for the 2018 class opened in late October and runs through Jan. 10. Organizers are hoping for 10 to 12 businesses to sign up for the program that pairs early-stage companies with mentors and includes a pitch competition with a $10,000 grand prize in May, the newspaper reported.

Scott Benson, economic and business development director of the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, told the newspaper that after turning over the Top Gun and B2B trade show programs to the chamber, his organization will focus on overseeing its $3.5 million commercial loan program.
