New businesses opening in downtown Bangor

Downtown Bangor is seeing plenty of new-business activity lately.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Jersey’s Subs & Sweets will open at the end of December. Opening in November were ButterUpCakes, a bakery specializing in gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free options; City Drawers, a women’s underwear and sleepwear and men’s formal-wear boutique; and a gallery called Limited Edition Studio.

The opening of its Bangor location is an expansion for City Drawers, which is based in Belfast. The six-year-old business signed a long-term lease to set up shop in the block of buildings on Exchange Street purchased by ANM Properties in 2016. The original Belfast location will remain open, although the store's Bath location closed in order for City Drawers to expand into Bangor.

"Bangor is the epicenter for a number of our non-local customers," City Drawers owner Dee Bielenberg said in an October news release

Other recent commercial activity includes the December sale of Giacomo's, a downtown Bangor grocery store and café. The BDN reported that purchaser David Reesman indicated the café will have a new name and new concept.
