Portland gets plans for Bayside, waterfront projects
The City of Portland has received site plans for two major projects, one involving housing in the Bayside neighborhood and the other a boat yard expansion on the western waterfront.
The Forecaster reported that developer Jack Soley’s plan for Bayside includes 23 condominiums on Parris Street. A nearby parcel, on Kennebec Street, is also slated to become housing as part of a mixed-use development by developers Ross Furman and Nathan Szanton.
Phineas Sprague’s plan is an expansion of his boat repair business on West Commercial Street. The 18-are site is adjacent to Sprague’s Portland Yacht Services and the International Marine Terminal. The plan includes building a 20,000-square-foot building for maintenance and repairs, a 2,400-square-foot building for storing racing shells, and a multi-story 4,800-square-foot office building.
Sprague sold his 10-acre Portland Co. Marine complex on the eastern end of Portland’s waterfront in 2013, then bought the West Commercial Street property to relocate his Portland Yacht Services boatyard.
