Wolfe’s Neck Center among Freeport Chamber’s award winners

The Greater Freeport Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting, auction and awards dinner on Jan. 31 in Freeport.

At this year’s event, Jim Frey of Bow Street Market will receive the Volunteer of the Year Award, bestowed upon an individual who has supported the Chamber consistently throughout the year.

“Jim has been involved in nearly every project in one fashion or another” said Shawna Chigro-Rogers, the Chamber’s executive director, in a statement. “He steps right up to the plate when something is needed, and is always engaged.”

The Ed Bonney Community Contribution Award, which honors an extraordinary individual who has contributed to the Greater Freeport and Chamber business and social communities, will go to Betsy Ruff, whom Chigro-Rogers called “one of the most inspiring persons I have had the privilege of meeting.”

The L.L. Bean Community Involvement Award, to a company that has shown a true passion for supporting the community and through that passion making a meaningful impact, will go to Wolfe’s Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment

“I am so impressed with the vision of the Wolfe’s Neck Center leadership and with the innovative work being done at the center,” said Chigro-Rogers. “The impact reaches far and wide, and to have all that is being done right here in Freeport is quite amazing and frankly very cool.”

A portion of the proceeds from the event, to be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, will benefit the GFCC Budding Entrepreneur Scholarship Fund.
