Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation donates $50K to Maine AllCare

The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to Maine AllCare, a nonprofit advocating for universal health care in Maine, to hire an operations manager and to fund financial feasibility studies.

In a report posted on its website, Maine AllCare said the grant will enable the all-volunteer board to hire a director to coordinate its outreach efforts in promoting the establishment of publicly funded health care coverage for all Maine residents.

Its chairman, Dr. Henk Goorhuis, also stated the grant will fund two studies to determine the financial feasibility of establishing publicly funded health care coverage that would meet Maine AllCare’s goals of being “efficient, financially sound, politically sustainable and provide benefits fairly distributed to all.”

Maine AllCare has 10 chapters throughout Maine and plans to create additional chapters “to increase awareness, education and communication throughout the state.”

The foundation was started by writers Stephen and Tabitha King and donates to organizations and community-based initiatives in Maine that often do not have easy access to resources or funding.
