The U.S. Small Business Administration launched an 18-state road tour, with a visit scheduled for Portland on Aug. 24.

It will be the fourth year of the road tour led by the SBA’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, with participation from 11 other federal agencies.

Each stop will be hosted by a local organization committed to supporting technology-based entrepreneurship and provides attendees an opportunity to meet directly with federal agency Program Managers and decision makers.

The Portland visit will be hosted by the Maine District Office of the SBA and the Maine Technology Institute.

“The Maine District Office of the SBA is delighted that Portland is one of the coveted stops on the national SBIR Road Tour,” said Amy Bassett, SBA’s Maine District Director. “The road tour brings with it senior program managers from all 11 of the federal agencies that provide research and development grant funds. They will be in Maine to provide instrumental guidance and advice to small businesses interested in accessing these highly competitive funds.”

MTI President Brian Whitney said partnering with SBA to host the road tour will ensure that Maine small businesses and entrepreneurs have the best possible chance of securing federal grant funds to help convert their innovative ideas into new products, services and companies.”

The Portland tour stop will be held at the Clarion Hotel, 1230 Congress St., on Friday, Aug. 24.
