Sterling Kozlowski, KeyBank’s Maine market president, passes away

Sterling Kozlowski, Maine market president for KeyBank, died on Saturday, the bank said Monday.

Kozlowski, 58, lived in Falmouth and was active in the local business community, serving on the board of FocusMaine, the private-sector effort to generate more jobs for Maine. Kozlowski has also been a contributor to Mainebiz, and wrote a How To column for the most recent edition.

“All of us at KeyBank are deeply saddened by Sterling’s sudden passing,” E.J. Burke, co-president of Key Community Bank,said in a statement released by the bank: “For years, he was a trusted leader in KeyBank’s Upstate New York and New England regions and a mentor and friend to many in the business communities of both regions. Sterling was not only a dedicated banker, but also a tireless community servant who worked with countless organizations to make the regions he worked in thrive. Our thoughts are with Sterling’s family, friends and many colleagues during this difficult time.”

Kozlowski was a native of the Rochester area. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1981 and earned a masters of science degree from Champlain College in 2015. He worked for HSBC in the Buffalo market.

In 2006, he joined KeyBank as western New York district president, based in Buffalo. In February 2010, he came to the Portland area as district manager for KeyBank.

He was promoted to Maine market president in December 2012, according to his LinkedIn profile.
