Bangor Savings to open Auburn branch

Bangor Savings Bank plans to open its first branch in Auburn, its 61st overall.

The 5,600-square-foot branch, at 170 Turner St., is expected to open in the late fall of 2019 on the site of a three-story apartment building recently purchased by the bank, according to a news release.

Bangor Savings, the second-largest Maine-based bank with over $4 billion in assets, currently operates a branch about 2 miles away, at 882 Lisbon St., Lewiston. Other Maine branches stretch from Houlton to York.

The bank also has expanded outside the state in recent months.

In April, Bangor acquired Granite Bank of Colebrook, N.H., for $45 million, adding four New Hampshire branches under the Bangor name.

Although the acquired branches included one in Portsmouth, at 2400 Lafayette Road, Bangor had planned to open a second Portsmouth branch, at 8 Bow St., by late summer.

The bank began New Hampshire operations in 2017, after opening a loan production office in Portsmouth.

This summer, the bank also opened a new headquarters in Bangor and continues construction on the remainder of the new campus.
