Online meal-delivery service DoorDash expands to Maine

DoorDash, a web-based service that arranges meal deliveries from local restaurants, began operations in Maine this week, connecting nine communities with a total of over 320 eateries.

The company said in a news release that it now serves Biddeford, Cape Elizabeth, Gorham, Old Orchard Beach, Portland, Saco, Scarborough, South Portland and Westbrook.

Customers in those communities can order door-to-door delivery through the service between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Participating restaurants include local fast-food chains, convenience stores and popular spots such as J’s Oyster and Timber Steakhouse, both in Portland, and 158 Pickett Street Café and Bridgeway Restaurant, both of South Portland.

DoorDash, which was founded in 2013 and operates in 1,200 cities and 45 states, is a competitor of Grubhub, which also serves the Portland area.

Tony Xu, CEO and co-founder of DoorDash, said, "Portland has become one of the top food destinations in the country, which is why we are thrilled to now offer local residents delivery from some of their favorite neighborhood restaurants through our platform."
