Nonprofits share in grants from People’s United Community Foundation

People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, has awarded $58,500 to Maine nonprofits during its third grant cycle of 2018.

Funding was allocated to 11 nonprofit organizations in support of activities that ranged from basic needs services and affordable housing initiatives, to education and workforce development programs.

Here are the recipients and their allocations:

  • Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, Portland, $10,000
  • Coastal Enterprises Inc., Brunswick, $7,500.
  • My Place Teen Center, Westbrook, $7,500.
  • SCORE Portland, Portland, $6,000.
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, Portland, $5,000.
  • LearningWorks, Portland, $3,500.
  • Furniture Friends, Westbrook, $2,500.
  • Jobs for Maine’s Graduates, Augusta, $5,000.
  • Bangor YMCA, Bangor, $5,000.
  • Good Samaritan Agency, Bangor, $3,500.
  • Four Directions Development Corp., Orono, $3,000.

“We are proud to partner with a number of nonprofit organizations that are creating positive change for individuals and strengthening our communities,” said Karen Galbo, executive director of the foundation.

In total, People’s United Community Foundation awarded $875,500 during its third grant cycle of 2018 to 171 organizations throughout the communities it serves in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The grants support the foundation’s three areas of focus, with 43% going to community and economic development, 37% to youth development and 20% to affordable housing initiatives.
