Massachusetts toolmaker plans expansion in Gorham

Harvey Performance Co., a precision toolmaker headquartered in Rowley, Mass., plans to build a new plant at a former racetrack on Narragansett Street in Gorham.

Garth Ely, vice president of marketing for Harvey Performance, told Keepmecurrent.com that plans call for a building with 76,000 square feet and 170 parking spaces. Harvey owns the building that houses its Helical Solutions plant in Gorham Industrial Park; that business would be relocated to the new facility.

The project is in the permitting stage. Construction could begin in the spring.

The 61.6-acre former horse track, on the outskirts of the town, was purchased in August 2016 by Moody's Co-Worker Owned Inc., owner of the collision centers. Located on Narragansett Street (Route 202) and Route 112, the property was locally known as the Fairgrounds site. A Moody's Collision and Auto Body Repair Center is located at 200 Narragansett St., nearly across the street.

The track is located in Gorham’s Narragansett Development District, a mixed-use district allowing commercial development residential units on floors above businesses.

According to its website, Harvey produces solid carbide end mills and high performance tooling. Helical produces high performance carbide end mills.
