Bangor’s Bagel Central changes hands

The popular eatery Bagel Central, at 33 Central St. in downtown Bangor, has changed hands.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Bagel Central’s long-time manager, Scott Bryson, bought the business from Sonya Eldridge, who owned and operated it for 20 years.

Eldridge announced her retirement in a Dec. 31 post, which received over 100 appreciative comments, on the Bagel Central Facebook page.

“Many of you may remember me as a young mother of an 8-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter taking over a flailing restaurant and moving it down the sidewalk 20 years ago,” she wrote. “If you only knew how terrified I was then. But failure has never been an option.”

She recalled her children coming to work with her at the shop and the scene at the shop, like “business deals and real estate transactions with cream cheese on the paperwork,” the “woman from France who loves cheese Danish,” “birthdays, anniversaries, and the one special memorial service celebrated in our dining room,” “kids getting a ‘reward’ bagel after violin lessons upstairs,” the “table of regulars solving the world’s problems daily” and the “boy who asked the girl to the prom with custom made bagels. (She said yes!!)”

She continued, “Please know BC is in the capable hands of the most amazing, hard working group of people. They know their stuff.”
