James W. Sewall Co., an engineering and consulting firm in Old Town, has acquired Maine Traffic Resources, a transportation engineering firm in Gardiner.

According to a Feb. 7 news release, Maine Traffic Resources’ founder, Diane Morabito, joined Sewall as its new vice president of traffic engineering.

The addition of the transportation engineering firm is expected to assist Sewall in providing complete traffic engineering services to all levels of government and private clients.

Morabito has performed hundreds of traffic impact studies, downtown studies, corridor studies, parking studies and design work, including traffic signal modifications and installations. She has provided review services to numerous Maine municipalities that are without in-house traffic engineering staff. She is chair of the Transportation Professional Certification Board Inc., and a member of Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society. She received the New England Distinguished Service Award in 2004 from the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

She also has served as president of the Maine Chapter and New England Sections of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

Joining forces with Sewall will provide Maine Traffic Resources with extra capacity and support in offering traffic engineering design for new intelligent transportation system demands, the release said. To that end, Sewall also recently hired additional traffic engineering employees such as Lynn Frazier and Heather Hayes.

Sewall is a multi-disciplined consulting firm providing services to government, energy and utilities, and the forest industry. Founded in 1880, Sewall is comprised of professional engineers, surveyors, natural resource consultants, and geospatial and information consultants and technologists.

Sewall’s owner, Treadwell Franklin Infrastructure Capital LLC, is an integrated infrastructure business that focuses on developing and sponsoring the commercial infrastructure of the United States.
