Maine Arts Commission opens nominations for 2019 awards

Julie Richard, executive director of the Maine Arts Commission, says that honoring those who have an impact on arts and culture in Maine raises the visibility and importance of the arts in the state.
The Maine Arts Commission and ArtsEngageME are seeking nominations for the 2019 Maine Arts Awards, including small and large businesses that have had a significant impact on arts and culture in Maine.
The awards, held for the first time last year, recognize individuals and organizations that have contributed to the arts in Maine.
“Honoring those who have impacted our state’s arts and culture sector raises the visibility and importance of the arts in our state,” said Julie Richard, executive director of the Maine Arts Commission. “We’re proud to partner with ArtsEngageME to celebrate them in this wonderful program.”
Nominations are due by April 1 by 5 p.m., and may be made in the following categories: large business (50 employees and larger), small business (fewer than than 50 employees), arts education, community, artist, rural organization and philanthropist. Any Maine resident, organization, business, school or community may be a nominee.
Finalists will be honored for their long-term commitment to the arts at an event scheduled for the fall, when they will also receive a work of art commissioned especially for the awards.
Nominations must be submitted online, through the Maine Arts Commission’s Grants Management System and include a nomination letter, letter of recommendation, the nominee’s resume, and related work examples.
The awards are presented by the Maine Arts Organization, which is based in Augusta, in partnership with ArtsEngageME, the commission’s non-profit support and advocacy organization.
