New hires

CD&M, an advertising agency in Portland, hired Joey Terry as content and social media director. Terry previously worked for Electronic Tenant Solutions.

Eastern Maine Development in Bangor hired Kristen Callagy as director of finance and Edward Dahl as Maine PTAC counselor in the southwest center. Callagy was previously sponsored project accounting manager for the Jackson Laboratory while Dahl is a former PTAC counselor.

Sweetser, a nonprofit community mental health provider in Saco, hired Laura Sproch as program director for its New England eating disorders program. Sproch most recently served as research coordinator and a clinical psychologist at the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt Health System in Baltimore.

Maine Department of Economic and Community Development hired Peggy Schaffer to direct the ConnectME Authority. Most recently, Schaffer served as small business advocate in the Maine secretary of state’s office and as co-chair of the Maine Broadband Coalition, a statewide group advocating for high speed broadband.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, hired Kaitlyn Husar and Ian Green as associates. Husar joined the firm’s business restructuring and insolvency practice group while Green joined the firm’s business practice group.

College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor hired Reuben Hudson as chemistry professor. Hudson was previously at Colby College.

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor hired Mansour Almarhoon and Khadija Irshad. Almarhoon specializes in epilepsy and electroencephalography while Irshad specializes in neurology and strokes. The center also hired Katherine Hintz as a physician assistant at Northern Light Urology.

Northeast Bank in Portland hired Taylor Hatch as vice president, retail operations manager. Hatch was previously assistant vice president, branch operations manager at First National Bank in Damariscotta.

The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine in Norway hired Diane Madden as operations and development director. Madden has 25 years of nonprofit management experience in the health care industry.

RE/MAX Shoreline hired Dee Banks as an associate broker and Brooks Rankin as an agent in its Portland office.

Northern Light Vascular Care in Bangor hired Megan Buckley. She is board certified with the American Nursing Credentialing Center, American Red Cross and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Nursing and was previously a clinical registered nurse at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Drummond Woodsum Strategic Consulting in Portland hired Vivian Mikhail as a member of its government relations practice. Mikhail previously served under Gov. Janet T. Mills during her two terms as attorney general.

Summit Natural Gas of Maine in Yarmouth hired Matt Jacobson as director of sales and marketing. Jacobson was previously executive director of the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative.

Covetrus, an animal-health technology and services firm in Portland, hired Matthew Leonard as executive vice president, president North America and global supply chain officer. Leonard was executive vice president of pharmaceutical contracting, purchasing and managed care for CVS Health.

John Hughes, who has a private wealth advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services Inc. in Scarborough, hired Daniel Dougherty as a financial advisor. Dougherty has 10 years of experience within the financial services industry.

Portland Public Schools hired Aaron Townsend as assistant superintendent for school management. Townsend is currently a senior associate with the Great Schools Partnership in Portland and will officially begin his role on July 1.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. hired Ruth Feldman as program director of the Women’s Business Center at CEI with a focus on rural Maine. Feldman, who will be based in Machias, previously worked as an organizational development professional, leading her consulting firm SEED (Social, Entrepreneurial Expertise & Development).

Maine Department of Health and Human Services hired Todd Landry as director of the Office of Child and Family Services. Landry most recently served as CEO of the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth, Texas, a nonprofit agency providing evidence-based prevention, early intervention, counseling and education programming.

Central Maine Power Co., a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc., hired Kathleen Newman as director of government affairs. Most recently, Newman served as deputy chief of staff and legislative policy director for former Gov. Paul R. LePage.

Promotions

Shamrock Sports & Entertainment in Portland promoted Lyndsay Merrill to director, experiences; Nick Kaminski to director, partnership development; David Thompson to director, creative services; and Brian Corcoran to chief engagement officer.

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in Augusta promoted Mark Latti to communications director. Latti previously oversaw communications for the Bureau of Resource Management.

The city of Portland hired Sara Fleurant as director of the Oxford Street Shelter. Fleurant was previously a program coordinator in support services at the shelter.

Appointments

Avesta Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing developer and property manager based in Portland, added Tim Agnew, James Elkins and Douglas Stockbridge to its board of directors. Agnew is principal at Masthead Venture Partners, Elkins is owner of Career Planning Services and Stockbridge is president of Rollins Management Group Inc.

The International Association of Maritime and Port Professionals elected Jon Nass, CEO of the Maine Port Authority, to its board of directors.

Verrill Dana LLP, a law firm in Portland, appointed Regina Hurley to chair of the firm’s executive board and elected Barbara Young to its board. With the election of Young, the firm’s executive board is now led by a majority of women, exceeding national statistics for gender parity in law firm leadership positions.

Gov. Janet Mills reappointed James Donnelly and Kelly Martin and nominated Sven Bartholomew to the University of Maine System board of trustees and reappointed former state Rep. Jean Ginn Marvin and nominated former state Sen. Joyce Maker to the Maine Community College System board of trustees. In addition, the governor nominated former U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud to the boards of trustees for both the University of Maine System and the Maine Community College System.

The Portland Water District board of trustees elected Guy Cote as president and Louise Douglas as vice president. Additionally, David Kane was reelected as treasurer and Donna Katsiaficas was reelected as clerk.

Achievements

A study released by the Lugar Center and the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University ranked U.S. Sen. Susan Collins as the “most bipartisan senator” for the sixth consecutive year. Collins received the highest bipartisan score in the 26-year history of the index.

Haskell Farm in Palermo was awarded “2018 Top Ten National Quality Award” for organic milk from Danone North America. The farm was recognized as No. 5 in the U.S. for its commitment to producing quality organic milk.

Hearst Television was awarded its 10th consecutive “USC Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism” in the station group category. WMTW-TV in Portland is owned by Hearst.

The U.S. Small Business Administration named Janie Wang, owner of Modernist Pantry LLC in Eliot, as its “2019 Small Business Person of the Year Award” for Maine. Two Men and a Truck said Dusan Martinovic was named one of the company’s nationally recognized “Move Heroes” for excelling in his career and going above expectations for the community.

Galaxie Salsa Co. in Buxton said it received three awards at the World Hot Sauce Competition in Louisiana. Red Roof Hot and Pin-Up Pineapple both took second place awards and One Tire Fire took third place in their respective salsa categories.

Brian Bernatchez, an independent LPL Financial advisor and managing director at Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville, was named to the “2019 LPL’s Chairman’s Council,” an honor presented to less than 2% of the firm’s approximately 16,000 advisors nationwide.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, gave Bob Callahan its “Diversified’s Chairperson’s 7 Cs Award,” as part of its bi-annual awards. Callahan is group vice president of the commercial marine, technology and grocery group.
