Significance: This installation is the beta project of the company’s own solar technology invention, which produces both electricity and heat for Chewonki’s dining facility. Chewonki negotiated a contract with Ascendant Energy to be the first to test the system and used money from its capital fund to pay for it.

Portland

Installation: Oakhurst Dairy, thermal hot water system
Size: 75 panels, 2,700 sq. ft.
Cost of project: $200,000
Significance: This installation is the company’s largest commercial project in Maine. The system will offset Oakhurst about 7,500 gallons of oil a year, saving Oakhurst about $30,000 a year, or about 10% of its annual energy costs.
