FetchDog.com fetches $4M

02/10/09

FetchDog.com, a Portland pet supply and social networking website, has completed a $4 million round of financing.

The company, whose founders include actress Glenn Close and her husband, David Shaw, founder of Westbrook's Idexx Laboratories, was awarded its first outside financing by venture capital firm Borealis Capital Partners of Hanover, N.H., and private investment firm Harbor Light Capital Partners of Keene, N.H. The company, launched in 2007, plans to use the money to expand its offerings as an online destination for dog lovers, with high-end products, information and online networking venues, according to a company press release.

FetchDog.com also plans to hire Claude Sheer as its CEO, a former executive at technology-driven Ziff Davis Media and at Beliefnet, a spirituality website, the Portland Press Herald reported. The company has 20 full-time employees in Maine and expects to add five more this quarter.
