Augusta composites manufacturer expands

02/19/09

A composites manufacturer in Augusta has doubled the size of its facility and added 20 jobs.

Kenway Corp. and its subsidiary, Maritime Marine, yesterday held a grand opening for its expanded 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, according to a press release from the company. The need for expansion was in part driven by Kenway's 2007 purchase of Maritime Skiff, a Massachusetts-based motorboat maker now called Maritime Marine. The company, which makes fiberglass and composite products for marine, pulp, paper and power industries, moved the entire operation to its Augusta headquarters, according to the release.

The city of Augusta received a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant to help fund infrastructure additions to the $1.2 million expansion, according to the Kennebec Journal.
