Poland Spring touts LEED facility

01/21/10

Poland Spring's bottling plant in Kingfield has become the first manufacturing facility in Maine to earn a top environmental certification.

Built in 2008 in partnership with Cianbro Corp., the plant has earned the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certification, according to a company press release. The $60 million building, opened one year ago, conserves 70.4 million BTUs of energy and 140,000 gallons of water annually, and 91% of the construction waste was recycled or diverted from landfills.

Poland Spring also has a LEED-certified facility in Hollis, where its warehouse expansion earned LEED silver status in October. The company has pledged that all of its new construction will meet LEED specifications.
