Unemployment edges up to 8.2%

Maine's unemployment rate inched up in January to 8.2%, according to preliminary numbers from the Maine Department of Labor.

January's rate is a slight increase from December's seasonally adjusted rate of 8.1% and higher than last January's rate of 7.3%. The number of unemployed in January was 57,900, up 6,500 from one year ago. The national unemployment rate was 9.7%, down from 10.0% in December, according to the DOL.
