On Oct. 30, 2008, Mainebiz hosted "Powering Up Maine: How businesses are coping with rising energy costs" at The Wyndham Hotel in South Portland. The half-day event included educational exhibits from more than a dozen companies covering several fields of Maine's energy industry, a key note speech by former governor and wind energy developer Angus King and a panel discussion where business owners and leaders discussed the challenge of generating new energy sources and the "not in my backyard" response that derails new projects. The panel included Sara Burns, president and CEO of Central Maine Power Company; Tony Buxton, chair of PretiFlaherty's Energy and Utilities Practice Group; Pat Coon, managing partner of ReVision Energy; Don Hudson, president of The Chewonki Foundation; and David Wilby, director of development and public affairs at First Wind.

If you missed it, not to worry. Maine Public Broadcasting Network, who partnered with Mainebiz on the symposium, has both Angus King's keynote address and the panel discussion available to listen to on their website.

Powering Up Maine was such a success that Mainebiz plans to make the symposium an annual event. Stay tuned for more.
