Reader comments:

Quite the opposite, we're being very conservative until we see the real impact of Obama-care on our wallets and taxes.

No, we continue to cut spending and see no end in sight. Why shouldn’t consumer confidence remain low seeing no one in Augusta or Washington is willing or able to do anything other than raise taxes and fees?

With interest rates so low, lower home prices and construction costs much more affordable, we are taking advantage of the situation to open my wife's medical practice.

Contributed to the local economy by investing in property repair and maintenance. If we don't start spending and supporting each other, then, YES, the economy will likely remain weak. What (or WHO?) are we waiting for?

Increased spending with what?

I had to take a 10% pay cut!

We're spending more on quality, and less on quantity.

We continue to deleverage ourselves. The Obama administration is destroying capitalism and increased taxes are on the way. Great change.

Excellent piece in Waterville Morning Sentinel re: BUILDING BUSINESS IN CENTRAL MAINE....Time to be as creative as our forebears, folks. Yes, I've been there, done that and the business still thrives and employs in central Maine...having brought it from New Jersey in 1968!

My ex-wife takes all my extra money and spends it.

It is hard to increase your spending when everything goes up except your wages.

Haven't increased spending. In fact, am continuing to decrease spending as much as possible so prevent going out of business.

I have decreased my spending to allow the state to increase spending on methadone addicts and other social misfits. How about a ban on the social services degree?

Have modestly increased our spending, primarily on some house projects that have been on hold for the past 2 years. That said, am very mindful and prudent about our spending.

In addition to not increasing spending, I have reduced credit card debt as well.

No spending increases can occur until the government stops spending everyone’s money

Who can afford to spend more when the threat of the expiring Bush tax cuts loom?

I believe the economy is in for a double dip recession. All signs point to weak back-to-school sales, weakening housing, a jobless recovery and lower consumer confidence. Plus, our federal government's policies have made them more problem than the solution ... with both parties to blame.
