Breeze Airways, a low-fare carrier that began flying out of the Portland International Jetport last year, is adding a seasonal nonstop route connecting Maine with Raleigh-Durham, N.C., the Jetport said Tuesday.

The airline is also launching one-stop service between Portland and Jacksonville, Fla. Both routes will start on May 24.

Flights for both destinations will take off from the Jetport on Mondays and Fridays, with introductory one-way fares for Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina's Research Triangle starting at $79. The one-stop flight to Jacksonville will not entail a plane change for passengers.

"We are thrilled to have Breeze Airways announce nonstop service to Raleigh-Durham," said Paul Bradbury, the Jetport’s airport director. "In just eight months, Breeze has grown to eight nonstop destinations from Portland, and our customers are really enjoying the 'seriously nice' service that is offered onboard.

"We appreciate the continued investment into the Portland market by Breeze and are looking forward to the upcoming summer season.”

Bradbury recently offered a bullish business outlook for the airport as a whole in 2024, predicting modest but stable growth this year amid a series of planned facility upgrades.

Upcoming projects include a $13.3 million revamp of the taxiway that runs parallel with the main runway, replacing baggage claim carousels and expanding public parking.
