Brunswick a semi-finalist for 2018 Great American Main Street Award

The Brunswick Downtown Association is one of 10 semifinalists for the 2018 Great American Main Street Award by Main Street America.

Main Street America is a program of the National Main Street Center, which employs a comprehensive, inclusive place-based and people-focused approach to revitalizing older and historic commercial districts.

Each year, the National Main Street Center recognizes exceptional Main Street communities whose successes serve as a model for commercial district revitalization with the Great American Main Street Award. Since 1995, more than 90 Main Street programs have been honored, including Bath in 2012.

“The Brunswick Downtown Association board and staff are honored to be selected as a semi-finalist for the Great American Main Street Award,” Debora King, BDA executive director, said in a news release. “We strive to make our downtown vibrant, fun, and attractive to residents and visitors. Being recognized for our hard work and dedication is incredibly rewarding.”

Winners will be recognized at the “Main Street Now” Conference in Missouri in March 2018.

The Brunswick Downtown Association is a member-driven, action-oriented organization of businesses and citizens who work together for a better community. The association coordinates downtown improvement projects, sponsors public programs and organizes special events.

The winners represent the diversity of communities in the Main Street America network — small towns, mid-sized communities, and urban commercial districts from every region in the country.

Jonathan C. Edgerton, director of Maine Development Foundation, and Anne G. Ball, program director of Maine Downtown Center, congratulated the BDA on being named a semifinalist.

“This is truly great news, and a testament to the outstanding program Brunswick has developed and maintained,” Edgerton said.
