Approximately 35 back office workers at the TD Bank operations center in Lewiston will be laid off over the coming months.
Judith Schmidt, TD Bank’s vice president of corporate media relations, told the Portland Press Herald that the planned layoffs stem from outsourcing to a third-party vendor.
“This will provide technical expertise that allows us to introduce more automation, improving our productivity,” Schmidt told the Press Herald. “We do not expect this to impact our customer experience.”
The upcoming TD Bank layoffs are the latest blow to employment in Lewiston. As reported by Mainebiz on Sept. 2, Xerox announced that it will lay off 142 employees at a call center in the city by the end of October.
