Maine company wins tourism contract

A Kennebunk company that has tried twice since 2000 to win a Maine tourism contract has finally been chosen by the state.

Davidson-Peterson Associates, the tourism division of Digital Research Incorporated, was awarded a $190,000, one-year contract with the option of two one-year renewals in a competitive bidding process that included Longwoods International, a Toronto company that had held the contract since 1996, according to the Portland Press Herald. Digital Research will provide seasonal reports on travel and spending behavior in Maine.

Digital Research previously lost the contract twice to Longwoods, and filed an appeal contesting the review process after the latest loss in 2007. In response to that appeal, the state rebid the contract, changed its request criteria and ousted members of the selection committee who work in the tourism industry, annoying some allies of Longwoods, the paper reported.
