A WalletHub ranking of the best and worst states for jobs puts Maine at No. 9.
When it comes to employment opportunities, Maine gets the job done.
With a score of 58.89 out of 100 in a national barometer by personal finance website WalletHub, Vacationland ranks among the top 10 most attractive states for employment and No. 2 in the job-market category.
At No. 9 overall, Maine is sandwiched between North Dakota at No. 8 and Rhode Island at No. 10.
To determine the best states for jobs, WalletHub compared the job market and economic environment in all 50.
Those were evaluated according to 34 relevant metrics, including job opportunities, employment growth and median income and salary, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for job seekers.
Researchers then determined each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to assign rankings.
Massachusetts and Connecticut lead the pack at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, joined by all other New England states in the top 10. At the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia ranked dead last at No. 50.
