The National Endowment for the Arts directed more than $110 million towards U.S. arts organizations, including eight in Maine.
In all, Maine organizations received $1,174,525.
Here’s the breakdown:
Maine Arts Commission, Augusta: $979,525. Grant will support arts programs, services and activities associated with carrying out the agency’s National Endowment for the Arts-approved strategic plan.Â
Maine State Music Theatre, Brunswick, $10,000: Will support free, sensory-friendly performances of musicals for young audiences.Â
Maine Museum of Innovation Learning and Labor, Lewiston, $30,000: To support a community-driven design plan for the incorporation of art, history and cultural features into the multi-use Riverwalk promenade connecting the cities of Lewiston and Auburn in Maine along the Androscoggin River.Â
University of Maine System, Orono, $60,000: To support arts programming and permanent public art that addresses the effect of climate change on wild blueberries and local pollinators.Â
Wabanaki Cultural Preservation Coalition (aka Nibezun), Passadumkeag, $35,000:To support Nibezun’s Wabanaki Traditional Arts Mentorship program, Wabanaki traditional arts making workshops and the implementation of the Wabanaki Artist Directory.Â
Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, Portland, $25,000 Portland: To support New Mainers On Stage.Â
Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance, Portland, $20,000: To support the Maine Lit Fest.
The Telling Room, Portland, $15,000:Â To support salary costs for the Young Writers and Leaders Program.Â
