Newsworthy people and performances for June 24

New hires

Fluid Imaging Technologies, a biotechnology company in Scarborough, hired Sarah Isakson as marketing coordinator and Steve Bowen as sales director for the western U.S. and Canada. Isakson was formerly marketing manager and office administrator at the Marvin Design Gallery by Eldredge Lumber in Portland while Bowen was director of professional services at Flow-Cal in Houston.

Midcoast Federal Credit Union in Freeport hired Kristen Poremby as senior vice president retail services and, for the Brunswick branch, Chelsea Kershner as branch supervisor.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington hired Kaitlin Knapp as a nurse practitioner at Franklin Health Internal Medicine. Knapp most recently worked for Matrix Medical Network as clinical manager of the northeast region.

University of Maine System hired former Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy as chancellor. Malloy brings 22-years of public service and executive leadership to the organization, including eight years as governor of Connecticut and 14 years as mayor of Stamford, Conn.

Sebago Technics, an employee-owned engineering consulting firm in South Portland, hired Donna Larson as community planner, Sophia Cooper as CAD technician, Cory Cormier as senior project engineer, Alex Jakubowski as a survey technician and Jodaliza Feliz and Matthew Orr as civil engineers.

Camden National Bank hired Barbara Raths as senior vice president, senior treasury management sales advisor. Raths was previously senior vice president of government banking at People’s United Bank.

The MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor hired Iain Drummond as professor and senior scientist. Drummond, who will assume the position in October, is currently an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, an associate biologist in the Nephrology Division at Massachusetts General Hospital and director of the kidney program of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. hired Alison Lane as a small business advisor at its Maine Small Business Development office in Bangor. Lane previously owned and operated the Logical Sip Cafe & Bakery in Brewer.

Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park hired Kim Kettler as director of development. Kettler’s recent activities include the creation of a mission communications plan for the Vos Foundation, a climate change solutions organization; grant and prospect research for the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government; ongoing management of the Logan Dunne Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Cape Cod Foundation; and development communications for Protect Our Cape Cod Aquifer.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust hired Steve Richardson as vice president, mortgage loan originator. Richardson has 20 years of experience in lending, management and training in the financial services industry.

Maine Medical Partners in Portland hired Heidi DeBlock for the hospital medicine area and Sunil Malhotra in the cardiothoracic surgery field. DeBlock was previously at Albany Medical Center, where she was in the surgical and neurosciences intensive care unit and as a medical student advisor and director of Critical Care Medicine IV Clerkship at Albany Medical College. Malhotra, who will serve as director of congenital cardiac surgery at Maine Medical Center, was director of pediatric and adult congenital surgery at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey in Newark.

Promotions

Landry/French Construction in Scarborough promoted Derek Albert to project executive. Albert has 23 years of project management experience in the commercial construction industry.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust promoted Nichole Lee to branch relationship manager II in Rockland and South China; Barbora Higgins to vice president and commercial credit team leader; and Torrie Lalime to assistant vice president and internal audit manager.

Katahdin Trust in Houlton promoted Teresa Lincoln to executive assistant. Lincoln previously served in the bank’s credit control department for 21 years.

Southern Maine Community College in South Portland promoted Paul Charpentier to vice president and academic dean. Charpentier has worked at the college for 24 years as a faculty member and administrator and for the past two years has been interim academic dean.

Machias Savings Bank promoted Leann Beal to assistant vice president, mortgage specialist; Matthew Jarrell to assistant vice president, branch manager; Yury Nabokov to assistant vice president, customer experience manager and marketing strategist; Hailey Wilkins to assistant vice president, retail trainer; Tristine Sargent to vice president, business banker; and Robert Simpson to vice president, audit manager.

GWI, a high-speed internet provider in Biddeford, promoted Kerem Durdag to president. Durdag will continue his role as COO.

Colby College in Waterville promoted Michael Wisecup to vice president for strategic initiatives. Wisecup is a retired commander of the Navy SEALs and a former assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General (retired) Gen. Martin Dempsey. He previously served as the inaugural presidential leadership fellow at Colby.

Appointments

Friends of Casco Bay elected Stephen Bushey to its board of directors. Bushey is a civil engineer with 30 years of experience in stormwater management and permitting.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland added Jason Kern and Sandra Lipsey to its board of directors. Kern is a real estate broker and investor at Portside Real Estate while Lipsey is a business coach, operating her own business.

The Aroostook County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation appointed Carol Bell and Bryan Thompson as advisors. Bell worked 20 years in the potato and wood industries, including eight years as general manager for J. M. Huber Corp. and spent 15 years in public health as project manager under the Healthy Maine Partnership Grant. Thompson is owner and CEO of Thompson-Hamel LLC, an investment, insurance, estate planning and payroll company.

Waynflete, a private school in Portland, said that Maria Garcia Canning has joined its board of trustees. The school also announced board officer appointments for 2019-20 include Christopher Smith, president; Tim Soley, vice president; Betsy Langer, secretary; Catherine Cloudman, treasurer; Kate Jeton and Nicole DuFauchard, member-at-large; and Alexander Spaulding, trustee emeritus.

Achievements

Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit said that it received a “TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence” for the fourth consecutive year and the seventh time overall. Certificate recipients included hotels, restaurants and attractions worldwide.

Frances Perkins Center in Newcastle announced its will honor Steven Hufnagel, executive director of the Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, on June 26 at the Frances Perkins Homestead National Historic Landmark. This special event recognizes the importance of the partnership between the trust and the center to preserve the Perkins Family Homestead.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust named Lisa Parsons, senior vice president regional market manager for Mount Desert Island, and Joe Scully, senior vice president director of security, technology and infrastructure in Hampden, as “The Chairman’s Award” winners at its annual Chairman’s Dinner and Celebration. The bank also presented “Emerging Leader Awards” to Caitlin Dunston, vice president corporate council, Ellsworth; Kevin Liberty, vice president commercial credit manager, Manchester, N.H.; Charles Seugling, vice president regional market manager, Manchester, N.H.; Kristie Howe, vice president HR business partner, Newport, N.H.; and Neal Blake, vice president assistant controller, Bar Harbor.

Lee Ann Szelog, president and keynote speaker for Simply Put LLC, was selected to speak on the subjects of communication and innovation at the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Conference in Birmingham, Ala.

Maine Coast, a York-based distributor of live lobster, was one of 48 U.S. companies presented with the “President’s ‘E’ Award for Exports” for its national leadership in exports.

The Maine Credit Union League presented its 2019 award winners at its annual meeting and convention. Anne Marie Lane, executive vice president, TruChoice Federal Credit Union in Portland was named the “Jeannette G. Morin Award for Outstanding Credit Union Employee” winner; Mason Pottle, board chair, Downeast Credit Union in Baileyville was the “Alexander Ferguson Award for Outstanding Credit Union Volunteer” winner; Steve Baillargeon, CEO, Penobscot County Federal Credit Union in Old Town won the “James M. Gratto Award for Outstanding Credit Union CEO;” Dan Bagley, executive vice president, The County Federal Credit Union in Caribou captured the “Diane L. Oceretko ‘People Helping People’ Award for Community Service;” and Dave Desjardins, CEO, Acadia Federal Credit Union in Fort Kent won the “League President’s Award for Outstanding League Volunteer.”

Neuright and Sticky Sweet were named the winners of the 2019 Top Gun Program’s Showcase. Each received $25,000 sponsored by the Maine Technology Institute and the David E. Shaw Family Foundation.

Jennifer Nuttall, a nurse in charge at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, earned the Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse credential from the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board.

Kenji Saito was elevated to fellowship in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Saito practices occupational and environmental medicine at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and Waterville. He is the medical director of Workplace Health, the center’s occupational medicine practice and is also regulatory liaison and chair of Medical Specialties for MaineGeneral Health.

The Greater Portland Council of Governments recognized Ecomaine with its “President’s Award” for its efforts to improve solid waste management through regionalization, environmental and economic sustainability, and public outreach.

Maine Homes by Down East magazine won the “2019 Home/Shelter” award at the 34th annual National City & Regional Magazine Awards competition.

Maine Ad and Design presented its annual Broderson Awards with VIA Agency capturing four awards for L.L.Bean including “The Pitch,” Gold: TV Campaign or Spot; “Be an Outsider,” Gold: Best Digital Video and Silver: Integrated Marketing Campaign; and “Sunlight Ink,” Silver: Print Full Page Ad. Other winners were Garrand Moehlenkamp for New Balance: “247 Time Zones,” Gold: E-Commerce Website and for Dunkin Donuts: “S!p,” Gold: Experimental; and Rinck for Colman’s Mustard: “Hot Mess Tour,” Gold: Social Media Integrated or Multi-Platform Campaign and “Hot Mess Tour,” Bronze: Experiential.
