Orono-University Credit Union has expanded its footprint into York County with a new branch in Saco, at 4 Community Drive and 1001 Portland Road/U.S. Route 1.
The credit union has fully renovated the 2,952-square-foot building with video teller machines and other amenities.
This marks the credit union's first foray into York County and its ninth branch overall, with existing locations in Orono, Bangor, Farmington, Gorham, Portland, Presque Isle, Machias, Augusta and Saco.
University Credit Union, established in 1967, was ranked the sixth-largest in Maine in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists. Rankings were based on total assets as of Sept. 30, 2024.
“Expanding into York County marks a meaningful step in our continued growth across Maine,” Renee Ouellette, the credit union's president and CEO, said in a news release ahead of a ribbon-cutting on Friday, July 25.
“With this new branch offering a full suite of products and services in Saco, we’re showing our commitment to being ‘Here for U’ by delivering trusted financial guidance, modern tools and a genuine connection to the communities we serve," she added.
The new branch includes a dedicated area for members to meet with product specialists and conduct a range of transactions including real estate, business loan closings, wealth management and financial education programming.
To lead the Saco branch, the credit union has promoted Shawn MacDonald to manager after more than a decade of experience in member services, staff development and community engagement. Most recently, he served as the credit union’s community engagement manager for southern Maine and previously was assistant branch manager in Portland.
Whitney Blethen will serve as the company's new community engagement manager for southern Maine, leading local initiatives including financial literacy education, volunteering, sponsorships and community partnerships.
