The Portland Daily Sun, a free daily newspaper, has reached an agreement to purchase the news aggregation website MaineNewsSimply.com for an undisclosed price.
The Bangor Daily News reported Mark Guerringue, publisher of the daily paper, said the deal has not yet closed but NewsSimply founder Stefan Williman confirmed a deal is near.
Guerringue said readers won’t see substantial changes to either media outlet. He said that the Daily Sun will use some of the press releases and blogs published at the news aggregator to populate a new business section in the free newspaper, which he said has a circulation of around 13,000. He said the paper is increasing its revenue but declined to provide specifics.
Guerringue founded the Portland paper four years ago on a model similar to what he used in New Hampshire with the Conway Daily Sun, the Berlin Daily Sun and the Laconia Daily Sun.
