While Maine’s most populated city has been making national headlines and lists for its beer and spirits, pizza in Portland is getting the spotlight in Esquire magazine’s list of “America’s Best (and Worst) Cities for Pizza.”
The New York-based men’s magazine singled-out the growing number of gourmet pizza offerings in Portland and their use of local ingredients, including Otto’s and its “deliciously bizarre combos,” including its mashed potato, bacon and scallion pizza.
The Sicilian slab-style pizza found at Micucci Grocery on India Street and Slab also received a shout-out on the list, where Portland’s pizza world is joined by big timers on the magazine’s list, including New York City and New Haven, Conn.
