The Portland Museum of Art has hired two leaders for key roles to lead programming and philanthropic growth.
Louisa Donelson will take on the role of director of programming and events. She will work collaboratively across the curatorial, education, audience engagement and philanthropy teams. She will also oversee the museum's film program.
Donelson brings extensive experience in arts programming and community engagement. Most recently, she served as a producer for the Maine Outdoor Film Festival. She has also held leadership goals with organizations including the Maine Community Foundation and Rhode Island School of Design's Maine Alumni Club.
“I’m thrilled to join the PMA team and look forward to creating innovative programming that connects art with the many facets of our community,” said Donelson. “When we share perspectives, we build connection and help brighten our world.”
Margaret McDonnell has been named director of leadership giving.
She joins the PMA from the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, where she served as leadership gift officer. In that role, she led donor initiatives, enhanced community participation and advanced the institution’s philanthropic strategy.
McDonnell received her bachelor's degree from Colorado College and is pursuing a master's in project management at Northeastern University’s Roux Institute in Portland.
“It’s an exciting time to be at the PMA,” said McDonnell. “The museum’s vision for the future is bold and community-centered, and I’m honored to help build the relationships that will make that vision possible.”
The PMA’s collection includes more than 18,000 objects, including 19th- and 20th-century American and European art and iconic works from Maine.
