A hazardous waste cleanup contractor in Auburn has been acquired by an environmental services firm with a growing national footprint.
EnviroServe Inc., based in Salt Lake City, acquired Environmental Projects Inc., according to an Aug. 7 news release. Terms were not disclosed.
The deal gives EnviroServe its first presence in New England. Previously, the company's nearest branches were in Buffalo and Philadelphia.
EnviroServe, founded in 1990, is a national provider of environmental and waste management services and a portfolio company of One Rock Capital Partners LLC, a private equity firm in New York City.
Environmental Projects provides environmental remediation and waste management services for customers across diverse markets. Founded in 1999 by its president, Brian Fons, Environmental Projects has grown to become a leading hazardous waste removal and spill response contractor in Maine, the company says on its website.
The headquarters include a large material and equipment warehouse, maintenance facility and hazardous waste transfer facility.
"EnviroServe's professionalism, strong culture of safety and dedication to customer service resonate deeply with our values,” said Fons. “We look forward to contributing to the continued success and growth of EnviroServe."
The acquisition is “a key step in our goal of building a leading national environmental services platform," said Andy Shackett, operating partner at One Rock. "By combining our resources and expertise, we believe this acquisition will deliver significant value to our customers."
The deal is the latest in EnviroServe’s growth spree. In February, the Utah firm opened its third location in Florida and its 38th nationwide. In May it acquired CG Environmental, an environmental and industrial services provider headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, with seven locations across the region.
One Rock makes investments in companies with potential for growth and operational improvement, according to a news release.
U.S. waste management and remediation services are a growing industry, increasing from $47.8 billion in 2010 to $65.5 billion in 2021, with steady employment growth from 357,300 in 2010 to 476,700 in 2022, according to a 2023 report by the U.S. International Trade Commission’s Office of Industries.
