Spokeswomen: a facilitated peer group designed to help female entrepreneurs become more persuasive and effective communicators for a wide range of situations.

How does it work? Through this highly interactive 8-week online program, participants will gain clarity and develop their own personal style of speaking about their business. Each session is an opportunity to practice storytelling through a range of speaking scenarios, all with a supportive sounding board of female entrepreneurs who provide feedback and encouragement. Through supplementary homework exercises, participants deepen their understanding of persuasive speaking tools and techniques to be a confident and effective communicator.

The Spokeswomen cohort has a maximum of 10 participants to allow for ample speaking opportunities along with fostering connection and vulnerability among participants.

From scenarios including casual inquiries about your business to professional elevator pitches, Spokeswomen will provide a space for you to practice techniques for all types of situations so you can feel confident speaking on the spot.

“Spokeswomen gave me all of the information I never knew I needed! By the end of the course, I was able to confidently and clearly define who I am as a professional and explain my services and their benefits. I learned tricks for making my speeches and content entertaining, engaging, and relatable. I’ve been afraid of promoting my business because I didn’t have the words to market in a convincing way. I no doubt believe that my business will grow now that I’ve gotten over this hurdle. It has been the missing link.” – Spokeswomen Participant Summer 2022

When does Spokeswomen begin? We will be kicking off our Spring 2024 Spokeswomen cohort on April 3rd. Sessions will be 2-hours, from 4pm-6pm, meeting virtually via Zoom for 8 weeks.

What happens at the end of the course? The course will culminate with a virtual speaking event, at which each participant will present their “goal speech” and get a final.

Who should sign up? Maine-based female entrepreneurs who are currently in business.

How much does the program cost? Typically, this program costs $250 per person but for our Spring 2024 cohort, we will be offering this free of charge.

What if my business does not entail public speaking? Spokeswomen will help to build your comfort with speaking up in all kinds of situations that you may find yourself in as an entrepreneur — making a pitch, speaking in front of groups, interviewing, selling, negotiating, and more. No matter what kind of business you own, your ability to communicate your message is essential.

Session Dates: Spokeswomen will meet on Zoom on the following dates:

    April 3rd, 4:00pm-6:00pm

    April 10th, 4:00pm-6:00pm

    (No Session April 17th)

Business, and life, can be viewed as a journey.

Where are you on your journey? Your business cycle? How are you leading the life of a heroine as you start / grow your business?

In 1990, Maureen Murdock wrote The Heroine’s Journey: Woman’s Quest for Wholeness as a response to Joseph Campbell’s traditional model of the Hero's Journey. She felt his model failed to address the specific psycho-spiritual journey of contemporary women. She developed a model describing the cyclical nature of the female experience.

Join us to share, to listen, to learn in this safe forum for conversation.

    Program Description:

How can you be an emotionally intelligent and vulnerable leader? How can you take action in your life around sexism, patriarchy, and racism?

Men are being called on to change, evolve, and transform the ways that we show up as leaders in our businesses and the world. The MeToo Movement and Black Lives Matter have called on Men to address sexism, patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and racism and dismantle old patterns of domination and control, emotional detachment, rigid hierarchy, and entrenched power.

Within this group, we'll embark on a collective journey to align with our purpose, tapping into our inner reservoirs of power and grounding. We will co-create a space that encourages vulnerability and the open sharing of emotions, recognizing the profound impact of emotional intelligence on enhancing our personal and professional lives.

Discover the strength that arises when like-minded men collaborate and support one another, committed to dismantling outdated structures and embracing a new paradigm of conscious leadership and positive masculinity. This workshop is an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, foster personal growth, and collectively contribute to a positive and transformative shift in how we lead and impact the world around us.

Maine Revenue Services is modernizing Maine’s online tax system to make managing your taxes easier, faster, and more convenient. The Maine Tax Portal will allow taxpayers and tax professionals to file and pay state taxes, set up payment plans, update account details, check on refunds and view notices from Maine Revenue Services. The service will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

    Why attend?
How you file, manage, and pay your Maine taxes online has changed. The Maine Tax Portal has replaced the legacy systems you may have previously used (I-File, EZ Pay, MEETRS). Our LIVE Maine Tax Portal training webinars are your opportunity to get the information you need to begin using the Maine Tax Portal. The Maine Tax Portal is already open for many different taxes – see the list at www.maine.gov/revenue/portal.

    What can I expect?
    • Webinars will last for approximately one hour, with Q&A sessions to follow. Please allow 90 minutes to participate.
    • Webinars will be recorded and available for later viewing at maine.gov/revenue/webrecordings.
    • Webinars will be held via Zoom. Participants do not need cameras or microphones to participate. Telephone dial-in options will not be available.

    Who should attend?
These webinars cover the new Maine Tax Portal functionality that will become available on October 10, 2023. You only need to attend one session for the topic that's relevant to the taxes you pay.

This training session will specifically cover information for taxpayers who file the following tax: Individual Income Tax. This session is being offered on multiple dates and times; while you need only attend a session once, you may attend as many times as desired if you wish to repeat the session and review the material again.

To help you prepare for the Maine Tax Portal, Maine Revenue Services is hosting tax portal training, where you will learn:
    • When you can begin using the Maine Tax Portal
    • Exciting new features to make filing, paying, and managing state taxes faster and more convenient than ever
    • How to create a login

Are you committed to building an organization and community where everyone can thrive? Are you committed to learning more about our history so you can understand our current world? Then this three part series is for you.

This course will build a deeper and fuller understanding of systemic racism in the US. Understanding our racial history through a systemic lens and discussing our reflections in facilitated sessions is an essential way for us to address the inequities that exist today. In three parts we will watch the award winning documentary film, Race: The Power of an Illusion. After each part we will gather together in community to reflect, discuss, learn and unlearn. Course participants will have access to the documentary, additional resources and journal prompts through an online platform. Doing this work together provides transformational growth personally, professionally, and organizationally. This work takes courage and commitment and above all, an unwavering commitment to hope and humanity. We look forward to seeing you there.

This program is the prerequisite for the Racial Identity Series which will be offered in the fall 2024.
