In 2011, Brunswick Landing, Maine’s Center for Innovation, opened for business at the decommissioned Naval Air Station Brunswick.
The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) is managing the transition of the former Navy properties, in Brunswick and Topsham, from military to civilian usage. We are thankful to those in the private sector who have worked together with the MRRA Team to establish their business on the Brunswick Landing. Each business who makes a conscious decision to be a part of the redevelopment effort contributes to the remarkable success that has been realized at the Brunswick Landing. Being part of a community created to foster and encourage new ideas, new innovations and new opportunities is an attractive selling point for the Landing. Success is not achieved alone, and MRRA is grateful for the partnerships with our local, state and federal partners as well as the organizations and groups that have been critical to our success.
Today, Brunswick Landing is a robust work-live-play community within beautiful, historic Brunswick – and a draw for innovative people, entrepreneurs and high-tech businesses. While on the Brunswick Landing, visitors can actively enjoy and experience a variety of businesses located on the campus such as the Wild Oats Bakery, Flight Deck Brewery, Landing YMCA, Brunswick Recreation Center, the Midcoast Athletic & Recreation Complex (MARC), Brunswick Topsham Land Trust’s walking and biking trails, Spark Cycling Studio, Mere Creek Golf Course, and a safe pedestrian walking trail. A notable example of Maine’s future communities!
Brunswick Landing’s unique assets set it apart from other industrial or business parks. Our campus is host to the Brunswick Executive Airport (BXM), a regional general aviation airport with more than 27,000 annual flight operations; Southern Maine Community College; and manufacturing business incubator, TechPlace, which is powered by an independent power grid run on renewable energy and provides high-speed fiber optic and data networks. Brunswick Landing is also home to more than 150 business entities, bringing the workforce on the Landing to just under 3,000 jobs and growing rapidly.
Brunswick Executive Airport is home to 18 aerospace companies – flight schools, unmanned aircraft systems, new-space companies, aircraft maintenance and aircraft manufacturing. Future plans for the campus include new aviation facilities, a Customs Border Protection facility as well as the opening of the Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) in August 2024, run by the University of Maine Augusta, to support the workforce needs of aviation companies in Maine.
MRRA is a partner in the development of the Maine Space Complex, where facilities located at the Landing will focus on data and advanced analytics, incubation, research and development, manufacturing and testing. TechPlace is the home of the Maine Space Corporation’s headquarters and MRRA is excited to be part of the innovation and economic development that will grow from the New Space industry and will engage students, researchers, entrepreneurs, businesses, state and local governments and communities. More to come!
